Over the past decade or so I've conducted a large number of public talks and readings in both Ireland and the UK.

The majority of these sessions have taken place in schools, bookstores and libraries, with students generally aged between 10 and 14 (fifth- and sixth-class primary, first-year secondary students).

The sessions usually last about an hour, during which the teachers take a back seat while the students mercilessly grill me on the details of writing, and try to trick me into telling them what's going to happen in my upcoming books (this never works, but we all enjoy the attempts).

The events are always fun and - I hope - help to encourage the students to appreciate books.
