There are many conflicting stories about The Shark, but one fact is almost certain: he did not choose his own name... He was called The Shark not because of any aquatic ability, but because he was cold-blooded, cunning, and utterly ruthless.

He first came to prominence in Boston where he started out as a small-time crook working for one of the city's crime bosses. Within a year, he had formed his own empire, one that certainly did not meet with his rivals' approval: The Shark survived at least 113 assassination attempts.

Some experts maintain that the primary reason he was never apprehended was that neither he nor his gang ever killed. Their motto was simple: You can only steal from a dead man once. It has also been suggested that the authorities turned a blind eye to many of his activities because the rival gangs expended so much of their time and resources attempting to kill him.

Costume:
Though he could not be harmed in any way, The Shark usually wore a strong, durable chainmail outfit, presumably because it was more likely to survive an attack than ordinary clothing.
